In harmony with the objectives of the PhD course and with its interdisciplinary nature, the course focuses on the exphrasis as a privileged space of intersection between literature and figurative arts, from classical antiquity to the second half of the eighteenth century, passing through the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the Baroque. The lessons will take into consideration representative episodes from different periods, contexts, and literary genres, in order to highlight the variety of functions to which the descriptive moments in literary works respond and to broaden the view to other artistic languages.
