The course aims at exploring several aspects of the marble trade and circulation throughout the Mediterranean area during the Roman period. The course, which will involve scholars from different disciplines, will focus on the analysis of epigraphic documents, literary texts and archaeological manufacts as to observe the phenomenon from various but mutually coherent perspectives, from the techniques of the marble extraction to its trade. In the light of its interdisciplinary approach, the course addresses PhD students from various disciplines, such as archaeology, ancient history and classics.
