Classical Scholarship in Europe Between the Two World Wars

The meeting is part of the PRIN project (2017) Italian Scholars in the face of the Race Laws (1938-1945): Ancient Historians and Jurists. It aims to investigate the relationships between Italian classical scholarship, in its various forms (history, literature, archaeology, law, historical-religious studies) and the international European scene, with particular regard to Germany. The papers will aim to investigate both the personal relationships between scholars of various backgrounds and origins, through the examination of correspondence and archive documentation, and the scientific dialogue that arose around some of the 'hot' topics discussed in the post-war period, first and foremost that of race.
