Metal compounds are of great interest in the world of photonics. For example, organometallic compounds are particularly appealing for materials with nonlinear absorption, which includes simultaneous two-photon absorption (TPA) and excited state absorption (ESA). During the course, the basis of the nonlinear absorption and its applications will be presented, giving several examples of organometallic compounds. The nonlinear optical properties of metallic nanoparticules will also be illustrated along with the application of lanthanides in the area of photonics. The engineering of metallic compounds with β-diketonate ligands, from their synthesis to luminescence structured materials, will also be presented.
