This course will delve into a range of organic chemistry methods relevant to the synthesis of complex bioactive molecules. The course content is structured into several sections. The first part will deal with modern synthetic methods, with an emphasis on asymmetric synthesis and carbon-carbon bond formation. The educational objective of this section is the use of models to understand the stereochemical outcomes of reactions and the application of these techniques to design useful strategies for the synthesis of complex target molecules. The second part focuses on retrosynthetic analysis, a powerful conceptual tool used by chemists to design synthetic strategies. In the final part of the course, a recent synthesis of a complex natural product will be presented, thus offering the opportunity to appreciate the applications in a real and current context. The course will be taught by teachers who are experts in total synthesis and synthesis methodologies."
