The course aims to introduce PhD students to the: i) main issues related to the use of drugs in fragile care settings; ii) variety of real-world sources currently used in the field of pharmacoepidemiology to conduct analyses supporting a rational use of drugs; iii) strengths and limitations of real-world data analyses in order to develop critical thinking skills on the issue. The course will be particularly focused on statistical methods used to perform spontaneous reporting system database analyses. The aim of these applications is to better characterize the safety/effectiveness profile of drugs in the real life, and to improve the management of pharmacological therapies for patients that are more likely to be affected by drug toxicity and therapy failure.
