Lead instructor: Daniele Pedretti
Reactive transport modeling is a tool that couples fluid dynamics with biochemical reactions. In this course, it is presented in the context of flow and transport in porous and fractured media, such as aquifers. The course is relevant to several interdisciplinary topics, including environmental geochemistry, critical raw materials, the circular economy, geoengineering, geophysics, and hydrology. Students will develop a flow and transport model that incorporates reactions such as cation exchange, weathering, and microbially mediated processes. One or more case studies, proposed by the students, will be selected and analyzed in detail.
