Additional language Skills (IPLE) - 3 credits
SLAM - University of Milan Language Centre manages 3 credit Additional Language Skills assessments for the Bachelor's degree course in International Politics, Law and Economics (IPLE).
The required CEFR levels are the following:
- French: B1
- Spanish: B1
- German: A2
- Italian: A2
The language proficiency test in Italian is compulsory for international students who did not graduate from an Italian high school or do not possess a high school diploma in Italian. Students who graduated from an Italian high school or possess a high school diploma in Italian are not admitted to the Italian language proficiency test. For further information please check the Italian courses and tests page.
Students who already have a language certificate among those accepted by the University, got no more than 3 years prior to its submission and at a level equal to or higher than that required, can ask for validation by uploading it through the InformaStudenti service.
Students who do not have a valid language certificate will have to sit an entry-level test in one of the languages they have chosen. French, Spanish and German tests can be taken in November and February, according to the calendar below.
Each student can sit the test in the chosen language only once per academic year.
Students who pass the test at the required level will receive the corresponding language assessment credits, according to their degree programme. Those who fail the test will have to attend a 40-hour language course. Courses take place in the third trimester and attendance is compulsory. At the end of the course, students have to take an end of course test which can be sat up to 5 times in order to pass it. In order to be admitted to the end of course test, students must have attended at least 75% of classes. Those who do not attend the required number of in-person classes will not be admitted to the end of course test, but they can sit the Placement test again during the first semester of the following year.
