Bachelor's degree courses in Political Sciences (SPO) and Social Sciences for Globalisation (GLO): Additional Language Assessment (6 credits)

SLAM - University of Milan Language Centre manages 6 credit language proficiency tests of French, Spanish German and Anglo-American required by Political Sciences (SPO) and Social Sciences for Globalization (GLO) degree courses.

The required levels are the following:

  • French: B1
  • Spanish: B1
  • German: A2
  • Advanced Anglo-American: C1

Students who already have a language certificate among those accepted by the University, gotten no more than 3 years prior to its submission and at a level equal to or higher than that required, can ask for validation by uploading it through the platform Informastudenti.

Students who do not have a valid language certificate will have to take an entry-level test in one of the languages they have chosen. French, Spanish and German tests can be taken in November and February, according to the calendar below.

Each student can take the test in the chosen language only once per academic year.

Students who attain the required level will receive the language assessment credits, according to their degree programme.

Those who fail the test will have to attend a 40-hour language course. Courses take place in the third trimester and attendance is compulsory. At the end of the course, students have to take an end of course test which can be sat up to 5 times in order to pass it. In order to be admitted to the end of course test, students must have attended at least 75% of classes. Those who do not attend the required number of classes will not be admitted to the end of course test, but they can take the entry-level test again during the first semester of the following year.

Unlike the compulsory Placement test in English, which must be taken by first-year students, the language proficiency tests in French, Spanish and German can be taken by students of every year.

Language assessment in Advanced Anglo-American (6 credits)

This test can be taken only by second-year and third-year students. First-year students who attained the C1 or C2 level at the compulsory English language Placement test can ask for its automatic validation and receive the corresponding advanced language assessment credits by contacting SLAM through the Informastudenti Service.

Students who attained B2 level at the entry-level test or students who submitted a B2 certificate are entitled to attend the course in advanced Anglo-American.
