Learning objectives
Business activity and the management of public services are based on organizations and not on the spontaneous activities of individuals. However, among the objectives of the present course, there is not only the study of organizational dynamics characterizing firms and public bureaucracies but also community, social networks and more generally organizational forms that are emerging due to the spread of information and communication technologies (ICT) and the Internet.
Based on three different theoretical perspectives, organizational phenomena are questioned in order to emphasize the importance of structural aspects, symbolic/cultural aspects and ethics.
Teaching case studies will be used to actually put into practice organizational theories proposed during the course in order to make students aware of the path followed. In-class presentation and discussion will contribute to prepare final case studies proposed students that will be delivered after the end of the course.
Students will be in charge to contribute to a so-called wiki about the content of the course creating and sharing knowledge of the course content. Wiki-construction activities will take place during the course.
Expected learning outcomes
The course aims to develop skills for investigating typical organizational issues and related countermeasures to deal with them. Competences about storytelling will be also offered.
