Economics and Techniques of International Trade
A.Y. 2018/2019
Learning objectives
The purpose of the course is to provide theoretical elements and practical tools to enable students to be confident in the world of transnational and international commerce. The student should acquire a general knowledge of the issues faced by companies in the phase of setting up their internationalization strategy and achieve full mastery in the use of customs and foreign trade techniques that most engage international entrepreneurs.
The student should develop the sense and the ability to ask questions and, mastering the international matter, to practice the learned rules in real case study, placing himself in the perspective of not being subjected to such rules as inevitable constraints but of taking advantage of the learned techniques, in order to plan trade flows, optimizing costs, taxes and related administrative burdens.
Each issue is dealt with from a theoretical point of view - providing the student with an organized framework - and with a practical approach, allowing the student to use the analysed techniques in real case study.
The issues dealt with regard the techniques of international trade and range from the transport of goods to transport documentation, from international payment instruments to documentary credit, from the technique of goods insurances to the Incoterms and from export control to the supervision of imports. Particular attention is given to customs techniques of which the fundamental elements are deepened such as classification, origin and value, as well as the procedures and simplifications.
