Learning objectives
The subject matter examined in the course covers the basics of physical geology and Earth System Science, and the objectives of the course are to provide students with a general understanding of this discipline.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge of principles of basic geology. Ability to analyze natural geological systems in their complexity and interconnection. Ability to recognize and describe the main rock types of the earth's crust . Ability to read and interpret geologic maps.

Evolution of the solar system; evolution of the atmosphere; atmospheric circulation; oceanic circulation; continental depositional environments: rivers, deserts, glacial; deep and shallow marine depositional environments; Earthquakes; Volcanoes; Internal structure of the Earth and the Earth's magnetic field; Fundamentals of plate tectonics; Stratigraphy: biostratigraphy, magnetostratigraphy, chemostratigraphy, astrostratigraphy; Numerical dating; Geology of Italy.

Laboratory: Geologic maps and geologic profiles; description of sedimentary rocks.
