Human Physiology and Basic Anatomy

This unit addresses the organization and biophysical properties of cells and tissues. Basic concepts in cell and membrane physiology are synthesized through exploring the function of epithelial, neuronal and muscle cells. The following topics will be covered: principle of tissue organization, muscle tissue, nervous tissue, connective tissue, and epithelial tissue. Structure and function of biological membranes; transport phenomena across membranes and epithelia; biophysics of resting and active membranes of nerve and muscle cells; molecular basis of nerve and muscle cell function; mechanisms of sensory transduction and neuromodulation.

This unit addresses the organization and functioning of organs and systems of normal human body. The functioning of the following systems will be covered: cardiovascular, renal, respiratory, gastrointestinal, nervous and endocrine. The regulatory mechanisms and the contributions of each system to the body homeostasis will be emphasized
