Learning objectives
The course aims to provide the basic concepts required to understand how plants interact with the surrounding environment. The study of such interactions will be presented from a molecular to an evolutionary level. Part of the course will discuss domestication and interactions taking place between plants and humans, including the current challenges that agriculture is facing in the context of the topics discussed.

PROGRAM
The course will be divided in two blocks:
· A series of lectures presenting the basis of the interactions between
- Plants and abiotic stress
- Plants and bacteria
- Plants and fungi, pathogens and symbionts
- Plants and animals, especially insects (herbivorous and pollinators)
- Plants and humans
· The development of a research project, from literature search to writing, a peer review evaluation following the panel evaluation format.

The program also includes class sessions for the preparation, discussion and evaluation of a mini-research project. Each student will prepare a personal project related to a favourite topic, discussed during the course.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURES
Oral based on the discussion of the research project and on the topics presented during the course.

TEACHING METHODS
Method: traditional. Lectures will be given using slides and videos. It is recommended to follow the lectures.

RECOMMENDED PREREQUISITES
Good knowledge of basic plant biology and physiology, genetics
