Learning objectives
The main goal of the present course is to deeply investigate specific physio-pathological aspects linked to nutrition. In particular, in the first part specific physiological aspects linked to nutrition will be discussed while in the second part every year different pathologies linked to nutritional problem will be discussed with the aims of seminaries and discussion of the most recent scientific literature.

Hormones involved in the control of glycemia. Insulin and glucagon: cellular and molecular mechanisms of their secretion and action. Some aspects of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Functions of nervous system in the control of body weight and food intake. Hypotalamus and neuroendocrine control of appetite. Adipokines and gastrointestinal hormones: leptin, adiponectin, grelin. Obesity.
Epigenetic, tumors and nutrition. Obesity and tumors. Some aspects of various diseases involving nutrition: hypercholesterolemia, cystic fibrosis, celiac disease, Helicobacter pylori, gastric and duodenal ulcer, colitis, Crohn disease, ulcerative colitis, kidney stones, hypertension. Brief description of Anorexia and bulimia and the role of nutritional biologist. Allergies and food intolerance.
