Goal of the course is to analyze, experiment and discuss all the phases of the complex and multidisciplinary pipeline of film restoration

The Movie Restoration course presents the typical pipeline of movie restoration, from the film to the final restoration, presenting all the aspects, like digitalization, stream management, image processing, analysis of results and methods and tools from the market and from the field of research.

·Formats and materials
·Colored film and film in color
·The sound
2. Film preservation and conservation
3. Movie restoration pipeline
·Film assessment
·Film digitalization
·Frame restoration
·Color correction
·Archiving
4. Restoration tools from the market and from the field of research
All the above topics will be presented with examples in collaboration with the "I've seen things - Ho visto cose" research lab, part of MIPS Lab of the Computer Science department
Before taking this course is strongly suggested to take the course of "Colorimetria e Gestione del Colore per i Beni Culturali".
The course is held in italian
Type of lessons: classroom lessons.
Type of exam: final examination is a written exam with optional final questioning.
Alternatively the student can choos a working project with the following characteristics
-Groups formed by 1 to 3 students
-Topic related to important parts of the course topics
-Structured as: introduction, state of the art, experimental part and discussion.
The project will be presented with a detailed documentation and a slide presentation
