Learning objectives
The course examines the history of China and East Asia, providing students with a comprehensive survey of the major historical issues of the region and an understanding of the methodology concerned.
Expected learning outcomes
Objectives and learning outcomes of the course:
- have an understanding of the relationship between regional and global issues;
- draw connections between historical events and the social and cultural reality of the countries of the region;
- provide students with a comprehensive survey of the major institutional, social, and cultural developments of the period under examination.

Unit 1: Birth of Pakistan, the Kashmiri issue, Indo-Pakistani wars, the Durand Line issue, Indian and Pakistani interests in Afghanistan

Unit 2 and 3: Sinocentrism; China as the target of European, american and Giapanese expansionism; China's integration into the world system; China's geo-economic and geo-political expansionism
