Learning objectives
The course is intended for students with a knowledge of the Chinese language acquired during four years of university studies and aims to improve their capacity of verbal and written communication in proper Chinese, by exercises, of speeches, of communication, and of composition, consolidating the Chinese grammar and providing the knowledge of the figures of speech and various types of fix expressions.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the students will be able to listen and understand Chinese newspaper articles without difficulties, to express properly opinions, both verbal and written, to reach the requirements of the proficiency test HSK livel 5 (C1).

Course syllabus
The corse focuses on the development of reading, syntactic analysis and comprehension skills on texts or articles in Chinese language, at an advanced level.
The course aims at strengthening the students skills in drafting documents, such as CV compilation and correspondence; in oral comments on events or readings.
The texts will address various (socio-economic-legal) topics.
The 60 hours of lessons will be associated with 60 hours of supplementary language exercises, focussing on the lessons' content and on the preparation for HSK 5 exam.
All teaching materials selected by the teachers will be available on the ARIEL web portal.
Prerequisites for admission
In order to attend this course, students should have passed the exam of Chinese language 1 LIN.
Teaching methods
Lectures will be designed to train students' critical abilities and their communicative skills.
Seminars and conferences by distingushed guests from the Chinese cultural scene will be offered in order to strenghten the students skills and knowledge. Participation in activities and events is considered an integral part of the course.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam consists of a written test and an oral test, both mandatory.
The final grade is given by 50% written test and 50% oral examination.

The written test for Italian and Chinese students who have obtained a BA in Italy includes:
- solution of exercises, similar to those present in the adopted textbooks;
- solution of exercises, structured on the HSK4 exam model but focused on the contents of the adopted textbooks.
The oral discussion for Italian students and for Chinese students who have obtained a BA in Italy will be divided into two parts:
- during the first part, with the Chinese native speaker teacher, the candidate will be asked to read from the adopted textbooks, to explain some words, to answer the teacher's questions and to hold a short conversation on selected topics already discussed in class;
- in the second part, with the Italian teacher, the candidate will be asked analyze the syntactic structure of some passages from the adopted textbooks and explain some grammatical characteristics present within the text.

The written test for Chinese students who have not obtained a BA in Italy includes:
- translation from Chinese to Italian of a passage taken from textbooks;
- translation from Italian to Chinese of part of a newspaper article.
The oral discussion for Chinese students who have not obtained a BA in Italy consists of an interview with the Italian teacher: the candidate will be asked to translate into Italian some passages from the textbooks, answer questions in Italian on the contents of the text.

The written test is the same for both attended and non-attending students and so is the oral one, with the only difference that the oral conversation for non-attending students will consist of a greater number of questions.
