Learning objectives
This course is reserved to the students who did not pass the logical part of the self-assessment test administered to them by the State University of Milan prior to their enrolment in the degree course in Giurisprudenza (Law) offered by that university. During this course methods will be taught that will enable the students to solve correctly quizzes in logic of the sort that were administered to them and to improve their ability to find shortcuts for solving and reverse-engineering them.
Expected learning outcomes
- a proper understanding of the basic logical skills and the knowledge of the concepts and key elements of standard logics (such as logical connectives, contradiction, logical implication, probability, etc.);
- the ability to apply standard logics to legal cases and legal issues;
- the ability to analyze logically and critically legal discourses and reasonings and to identify argumentative fallacies, gaps, or ambiguities;
- the ability to correctly communicate and explain logical problems, and their solutions to both specialists and non-specialists;
- the appropriate and in-depth skills and techniques for understanding and evaluating the logical validity and the argumentative force of legal reasonings.

During this course methods will be taught that will enable the student to solve correctly the quizzes in logic that were administered to them to the goal of making them possible to self-assess the opportunity of their enrolment in the course of Giurisprudenza at the State University of Milan as well as the ability to find shortcuts for solving them and to reverse-engineer them.

Analytical program
1. First degree equations and systems of the type presupposed in quizzes, and shortcuts for solving them
2. Foundations of probability necessary to answer correctly quizzes in logic, and shortcuts for solving them
3. Quizzes involving percentages and percentages of percentages
4. Set theory as long as necessary for answering correctly quizzes in logic
5. Reading istograms and data presented graphically
6. Mean, mode, and median
7. Arithmetic and geometric series
8. "Alphanumeric" series
9. Main types on numbers (natural, prime, rational, irrational, etc.)
10. Propositional logic as long as necessary for solving correctly logical quizzes
11. Problem-solving through models
12. Extracting patterns from data
Prerequisites for admission
Having failed in the self-assessement test in Logic. Those who successfully passed the exams of first semester of both Institutions of Private Law and Constitutional Law are exempted from this course.
