- Knowledge and understanding of the topics covered by the program. The student must demonstrate that he has acquired adequate knowledge and understanding of the process of creating the single market and the rules and principles that govern its functioning. - Ability to analyze concrete cases. The student must demonstrate that he knows how to apply the concepts of law learned to concrete cases, through the study of official documents of the EU and, in particular, of the jurisprudence of the Court of Justice of the European Union. - Autonomy of judgment. The student must demonstrate that he is able to take on argued and legally sustainable positions with reference to the topics covered in the course. - Mastery of legal terminology. The student must demonstrate the ability to express the knowledge of European Union law acquired with argumentative consistency and language properties. - Learning ability. The student must demonstrate that he has acquired the basic tools for updating his knowledge of the material law of the European Union, applying the reference legislative and jurisprudential framework.
Expected learning outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be expected to have acquired: (i) an adequate knowledge and understanding of the progressive construction of the EU internal market and the key fundamentals of the relevant freedoms (ii) the ability to work with principles and legal rules, as well as to apply the notions learnt to practical cases; (iii) the ability to interpret the legal rules studied and to take properly argued and legally sound positions on the subjects of the course; (iv) a deep knowledge of the legal terminology related to EU law; (v) the basic skills to further develop and update their knowledge in this field.
The course, starting from the analysis of the progressive realization of the internal market, or rather from its different phases of evolution, will pay particular attention to its current overall configuration and to its possible future developments, also in consideration of the challenges that the European Union is facing: the possible withdrawal of a Member State, the economic-financial crisis, the important migratory phenomena. The notion of European citizenship will be introduced, together with the rights related to the status of citizen. Each of the four fundamental freedoms of the internal market (the free circulation of people, goods, services and capital) will then be the subject of a thorough examination, in order to provide the student with the tools to understand the functioning of the internal market in the current economic context and juridical of Europe. The study of the internal market will be conducted through the analysis of the relevant legislation (the rules of the Treaties, but also the specific instruments of secondary law), as well as through a thorough examination of the jurisprudence of the Court of Justice, which has helped to outline the principles underpinning the functioning of the internal market and which still provides a fundamental tool for its understanding and its construction.
Prerequisites for admission
European Union Law is a preliminary - required exam.
The course includes a series of lectures flanked by seminar meetings, where active student participation is required. In these meetings the debate will be stimulated through the examination of a practical case.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The final exam will be oral, and the grade will be expressed in thirtieths (/30), with the possibility of attributing honors. The criteria for assessing the oral exam include the correctness of the contents, the clarity of the argumentations put forward, the ability to provide a critical analysis and to work with principles and notions.
