Learning objectives
The aim of the course is to increase the main characteristics of the French language in a theoretical and applied perspective.
In particular, the course will introduce practical notions in French phonetics, phonology, lexicology and lexicography.
Particular attention will be paid to lexical strategies through the analysis of economic, tourist, sociological and anthropological texts in line with the objectives of the degree course. The course also aims to strengthen communication skills by preparing and exposing brief considerations related to the texts studied.

Expected learning outcomes
The exit level is set at B2 plus of the CEFR.
By the end of the course, students will have developped the most important linguistic skills (in particular listening and oral production) to deal with intercultural communicative situation.
Students will therefore be capable of paraphrasing and summarizing B2-level texts while also taking into consideration existing cultural differences.

Course syllabus
The first unit will deepen the main characteristics of the French phonetic and phonological system (voyelles et consonnes; modes phonétiques du français; syllabes; accent; liaison et enchaînement).
The second unit examines the main morphosyntactic and lexicological aspects of the French language.
The third unit will present an overview of the main lexicographic tools in use in the French-speaking space. In particular, after a historical excursus, the different types of existing dictionaries and their structure will be analyzed.

Prerequisites for admission
The student's assessment will take into account the autonomy of judgment achieved in the analysis of authentic texts and the communication skills (oral and written) achieved.
Teaching methods
The course is in French. Frontal teaching hours are foreseen during which students will carry out oral exercises and presentations.
The exercises are aimed at deepening the morphosyntactic structures of the French language, starting up written production and developing linguistic and communicative skills. The students will be divided into two groups (Dr. Taupin). The courses are annual. Students will also follow a grammar and conversation module.
There are two intermediate tests reserved for students who have attended at least 2/3 of the lessons (see below the paragraph "indication of exam / test mode").
Within the language exercises there is a 40-hour module specifically dedicated to the preparation of the Diplôme de français professionnel Tourisme-Hôtellerie-Restauration B2, issued by the Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie (CCI). This module, whose objective is to learn the writing of tourist texts, will end with a test reserved for students who have attended at least 2/3 of the lessons (see point 3 below - exam tests) .
In order to obtain the Diplôme de français professionnel Tourisme-Hôtellerie-Restauration B2, issued by the Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie (CCI) and internationally recognized, interested students must present themselves to the CCI exams that will take place at the Mediation Pole in the June 2020. Registrations for the CCI exams (spring 2020) are free and optional.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The final test consists of a written test (a) and an oral test (b) both mandatory:
a) the written test, aimed at verifying the ability to apply language skills to written texts (level B2 of the Common European Framework of reference for languages) includes:
- oral comprehension test;
-test check of grammatical knowledge;
- test for verifying lexical knowledge (the lexicon on which the test will focus will be taken from the Alter ego B2 manuals (all).
- for the section "Diplôme de français professionnel Tourisme-Hôtellerie-Restauration B2" the production of a short tourist text is foreseen (guided tour).
Students who have attended the language exercises and the form for the preparation of the Diplôme de français professionnel Tourisme-Hôtellerie-Restauration B2 in the measure of at least 2/3 of the scheduled lessons can take the intermediate tests (two tests within the exercises and one test at the end of the form for the preparation of the Diplôme de français professionnel Tourisme-Hôtellerie-Restauration B2.
Attending students who have obtained a mark in the sum of the marks of the intermediate tests will be exempted from the written test.
It is specified that:
1) students who do not take all the intermediate tests will be considered not attending and will have to take the four tests in one of the three sessions scheduled for the written exams during the academic year.
2) students who intend to reject the overall mark produced by the marks of the intermediate tests, will have to repeat the four tests in one of the three exams scheduled for the written exams during the academic year.
b) The oral test, aimed at verifying the linguistic-communicative skills and the ability to apply the theoretical-methodological tools of the official course to reference texts, consists of an interview in French on the program topics, aimed at verifying both linguistic skills than the content ones.
