Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam is composed of a practical and an oral part (discussion) with illustrative chart, both of which are compulsory for completing the course; each part counts as 50% of the final grade, which will include the points obtained during internship on the course.
The practical part tests the capacity and specific technical skills learned on the course. The oral exam with the presentation of an illustrative chart evaluates theoretical knowledge and the ability to apply it as demonstrated: 1) presentation of an illustrative exercise; 2) interview on the topics, techniques, didactics covered in the course; 3) application of direct technical spotting.
More information on the exam procedure is given on the Exam Procedure page uploaded on the Ariel portal.
- Students should come to the exam (theoretical and practical parts) wearing leotards and tights,a jersey and shorts
Practical part. The exam includes:
1) Floor exercise of student's choice
2) Forward handspring vault
3) Exercise on apparatus of student's choice
- PRESENTATION OF EXERCISES
The student will present an illustrative exercise chart (handed in by the due date stated on the exam registration form) showing:
a) Diagram of the floor exercise (title and duration of accompanying music for female candidates)
b) Brief description of the sequence from floor to the apparatus, with a clear explanation of the progression of movement illustrated on the chart
c) List of basic and complementary elements, with structural group in the floor exercise, specific requirements of floor exercise and the apparatus (acrobatic sequences, strength elements, etc.)
d) Demonstration of the handspring vault with illustrative chart
- FLOOR EXERCISE
Execution of an exercise created by the student between 50 and 75 seconds in duration. Female candidates are required to have musical accompaniment (no vocals); the music must end with the exercise.
- Forward handspring vault
Execution of a handspring vault either:
1) Straddle vault
- Jump in two phases with legs split; starting score 24 points
- Tuck or split (separated); starting score 28 points
2) Vertical handstand vaults
- Handstand (starting score 30 points)
- Back flip (starting score 30 points)
- Cartwheel (30 points wit honors)
- Other jumps (30 points with honors and recommendations)
Other types of jumps that are variants or derived from those listed above may be performed by previous agreement with the instructor.
- Other apparatus
Execution of an exercise of free choice on an apparatus in artistic gymnastics and composed of a compulsory progression (assigned by the instructor during class), including free elements practiced during this course and according to the modalities for each type of apparatus.
- Execution of the compulsory progression (starting score 24 points)
The instructions for creating the exercises are given in Attachment 1 in the Exam Program uploaded on the Ariel portal.
Theoretical part. The exam includes:
1) Evaluation of the exercise chart
2) Oral or written exam of the topics covered on the course, comprising:
- Classification
- Execution technique
- Didactics
- Spotting and principle errors
- Variants/derivatives
- General and specific physical preparation
- General and specific theoretical aspects
3) Knowledge and application of direct technical spotting
Note: For the oral exam, candidates can start the discussion by focusing on a structural group or an apparatus of choice (the evaluation will take account of the difficulty of the topics proposed); candidates must come to the exam with a fellow student in order to demonstrate direct spotting. Further information about the exam is given in the Exam Program uploaded on the Ariel portal.
