Introduction to European Private Laws

Knowledge and understanding ; the course aims to introduce the main common elements of the private law systems as present in the European Union Member States, in their distinction between "civil law systems", typical of all the Continental Countries, and common law systems, typical of England, Wales and Irelands. The two systems are shortly compared, and detailed in their principles.
Applying knowledge and understanding : the student is assumed to become familiar with the said principles, in the different areas of private law (family, succession upon death, property, obligations, specifically contracts and torts, business law, consumer law), and with the language of such areas, in English of course.
Making judgements : the course, being basic, might not pretend to make the students "scholars in law", but may, and does, under the experience made last year, afford the students to choose further courses where the language, the logic and the principle of the private law are applied, such as the law of the European Union and the international private law.
Communication skills : the just described "basic" nature of the course does not allow to open discussions over the items subject matter of the teaching; students, wherever they come from, are invited to compare their "native" experiences, although not technically refined, to the common and general principles taught during the lectures
Learning skills : students are supposed to study and learn mostly in an individual way; the professors are available for any further deepening or detail, during the reception hours, better if under a previous appointment.
