Learning objectives
We'll be developing the most up-to-date techniques for reading and commenting Latin texts, with a particular focus on the digital techniques. Our aim will be to improve the ability to recognize any type of Latin texts, and to grasp the hidden meaning and the main points of articulation of a predetermined series of them (CEFR - Level C = http://www.cusl.eu/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Sillabo-.pdf).

Through the digital message board and the classroom debates, students are asked to demonstrate the necessary technical skills for the critical elaboration of a short comment (written or oral) to a proposed text, with the attention to the elements today indispensable for any type of profession having to do with a literary environment.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam consists of two parts. Firstly, students must pass a written examination. It consists of a translation (usually at the PC) and a short commentary of a Latin text. Students are given a maximum time of three hours. Use of the Latin Dictionary is allowed. There is no mark, but only the admission (or non-admission) to the oral test. Evaluation criteria are: the correctness in the interpretation of the text; the accuracy in the use of the modern language; the ability to comment on the key points of the text, answering to open-ended and closed-ended questions. Simulations of the tests and tests assigned in recent years are available on the Ariel website. The results of the examination are communicated on the same website.
Oral exam. It consists of three parts. The examination aims to ascertain:
- the knowledge of the texts translated autonomously by the students (see above);
- the ability to discuss the texts presented during classes (Units A, B and D);
- The ability to understand and to comment on a short text chosen by the Examination Committee (this part can be substituted by the active participation to the online interactive exercises and the classroom exercises = Unity C).
It is possible to speak in Italian, English or Latin; the passing mark is 18/30, the top mark is 30/30 (cum laude). The exam aims to evaluate the ability of the students to understand the Latin texts; their skill in presenting the contents of the proposed texts; the appropriateness in the use of the technical language; the ability to use knowledge, facts, and data to effectively solve difficult problems.
Oral exam. It consists of three parts. The examination aims to ascertain:
