Learning objectives
The aim of the course is to describe the transformations of the literary system between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, when many institutional authors, later to become professionals, exploit the new dynamics of an ever-developing publishing market especially in the North, consolidating strong readership: this is the moment when a popular literature is also established in Italy. But it was only over the course of the nineteenth century that the audience reached full articulation, in functional relation with the other actors of the literary activity, writers and publishers. The acquisition of knowledge of the centrality of editorial mediation will be fostered by the study of great intellectual figures of the twentieth century, both writers and "publishers".
Expected learning outcomes
The course aims to lead participants in the acquisition of in-depth knowledge of the articulation of the literary system of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and of an awareness both of the role of actors of literary communication (authors, publishers, readers) and of the variety of genres that characterize the editorial draw in society's advanced urban-bourgeois. It is an awareness that passes through the editing of basic elements for an analysis of the text (narrative structures, stylistic and political devices ) which will enable the students to place the works studied during the course at the appropriate literary or paraliterary level, motivating the choice, with full consideration of the dynamics within the publishing medium.
