Learning objectives
The purpose of the course is to introduce the main principles of endocrinology, clinical manifestations and related diagnostic procedures in endocrine diseases, with a focus on the profession and practice of dietitian.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding.
At the end of the course students will have the knowledge about the diagnosis of the main endocrine and metabolic, odontostomatological and oncological diseases, with particular attention given to related nutritional requirements and the surgical approach to the treatment of obesity.
Applying knowledge and understanding.
For these diseases students will be able:
- to recognize clinical and biochemical manifestations, and related diagnostic procedures.
- to define the effects of hormones on the nutritional requirements.
- to know the advantages and limitation of bariatric surgery
Making judgments.
Students will be able to select and to appropriately use clinical and biochemical data for the diagnosis of the main endocrine and metabolic, odontostomatological and oncological diseases and to evaluate the effects on nutritional status. These abilities will be acquired through clinical case discussions and outpatient internship.
Communication skills.
Students will acquire interpersonal and communication skills that ensure effective information exchange, related these diseases, with individual patients, their families and other healthcare professionals. These abilities will be developed through outpatient internship.
Learning skills.
Students will be able to go deeper in the topic of these diseases through the autonomous consultation of databases, scientific publications and reference texts. These abilities will be developed through report writing during the course.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The final test consists in a written examination through a multiple choice test including 32 questions (8 questions for each module), with a time limit of 35 minutes. For each question, the student is supposed to select the "best" choice among a set of four options. Only one option is right. Any incorrect or not indicated answers do not affect the result. The minimum score to pass the exam is 18. The maximum grade is 32. Grading 31 and 32 will give rise to " 30 cum laude". The results will be communicated to students through email.
