Learning objectives
This course will deal with an in-depth understanding of some of the methods and approaches used in the field of the cognitive neuroscience and their clinical implications. In this frame, it will be illustrated the technical progress and its impact on the comprehension of the biological, genetic and epigenetic basis of cognitive processes and the related disorders. The course will provide an up-to-date view on these themes through a revision of the most recent literature. At the end of the course the students will have acquired the theoretical bases to identify the most suitable methods to be used in the different areas of cognitive neuroscience.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will know the basics of the genetic and epigenetic processes that are involved in the modulation of cognitive processes and in their related disorders; they will also be provided with the basics of the main methods and technologies utilized in the neuromodulation and in neuroimaging. Students will also be able to critically review the scientific literature devoted to the areas of cognitive neuroscience and in particular to studies that investigate aspects related to genetics, epigenetics and pharmacogenetics.

The program will start with an historical perspective, a methodological and technological overview and an in depth analysis of the biological, genetic and epigenetic basis of the main cognitive processes and of related disorders, in detail:
Lesson 1: Historical perspectives and general concepts of Neuropsychology
Lesson 2: Basic principles of epigenetic biology; General Aspects of Epigenetics in Psychiatric Disorders
Lesson 3: Neurobiology of drug addiction
Lesson 4: Internet addiction disorders
Lesson 5: The genetic in psychiatric disorders

Prerequisites for admission
No prior knowledge is required except the rudiments of cell biology learned in training activities in the same course of study.
Teaching methods
The course is divided into a series of front lessons with slide projection in Power Point. The lectures slides are loaded on the Ariel website. In addition to the teacher of reference will be also possible interventions of experts on specific topics.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The final assessment of the knowledge learned and the skills developed during the course takes place through the final exam which consists of an interview of about an hour. The exam is considered passed if the student has achieved a minimum score of 18 points. The booking on the UNIMIA portal, within the dates established for each appeal, is mandatory for the examination.
