Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with the basics of prevention, prophylaxis and management of the main infectious and parasitic diseases of domestic animals .
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student must know the general topics of biosecurity regarding the prevention and hygienic-sanitary management of infectious and parasitic diseases of domestic animals.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam consists of a written exam aimed at ascertaining the acquisition of correct understanding and ability to manage the course topics. The didactical tools available on the Ariel platform allows the formulation of questions aimed at verifying knowledge of the topics, the ability to critically analyze the contents. The test will be evaluated out of thirty and the final grade will take into account the accuracy and quality of the answers.

Releavance of livestock health status in its economic and social repercussions (6 hours)
Scheduling of surveillance actions, control and prevention against infectious and contagious diseases (6 hours)
Aims and methods of application of hygienic self-control program in livestock (6 hours)
Techniques and technologies applied in the disinfection at farm level (4 hours)
Basic epidemiology concepts (4 hours)
Basic immunization concepts (4 hours)
Classification of animal diseases (4 hours)
Interaction between pathogen, host and environment (2 hours)
Reservoirs and sources of infection (2 hours)
Major infectious diseases in farm animals and zoonoses (4 hours)
The diseases subject to the control and eradication throughout the country (4 hours)
Prevention of major disease in companion animals (4 hours)

Practical activity
Organization and activities of a microbiological diagnostics laboratory (4 hours)
Analysis of cattle farm health data (4 hours)
Practical application of protocols for prevention of the main pathologies at farm level (8 hours)
