Providing the basics of semiotics and of clinical surgery related to the disease more commonly seen and possibly correlated with eye problems
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student must be able to possess the rudiments of general surgery and in particular of ophthalmic surgery.

1. Notions of the anatomy of the intraocular lens. Cataract classification. Indications for surgery. Modern cataract surgical techniques (phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation; cataract surgery using femtolaser) Video presentations of different cases of cataract surgery including cases of complicated cataract surgery. 2. Notions of the anatomy of the cornea. Presentation of major corneal disorders requiring surgical treatment. Corneal transplation surgery (perforating keratoplasty; anterior lamellar keratoplasty; endothelial keratoplasty).
3. Glaucoma classification. Indications for surgery. Parasurgical procedures (laser techniques) for the treatment of glaucoma. Trabeculectomy (filtration) surgery; non filtration surgery; valve surgery; devices).
-4. Clinical presentation and classification of macular diseases requiring surgical treatment ( macular pucker; macular holes, etc). Vitrectomy; Epiretinal membrane peeling/inner limiting membrane peeling. Video presentations of surgical techniques.
5. Clinical presentation of retinal detachment. Surgical techniques ab externo and ab interno. Video presentations of surgical techniques.
