Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with a critical knowledge of the main religious buildings of Milan between fourth and thirteenth centuries in their cultural and historical context.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the seminar the student will know the artistic and architectonic elements of the Milanese buildings in the general context of medieval art. Moreover, the student will be able to demonstrate his study and comprehension of specific bibliography by presenting some artistic aspects or works of art during the guided lessons on the sites.

Course syllabus
The Seminar aims to introduce the students to the medieval reality of Milan, by analysing the main monumental contexts from the fourth to the thirteenth centuries. After the first lecture, the course will take place on the sites chosen as objects of study. In this way it will be possible to analyse the different architectural phases and the artistic complements (sculptures, frescoes, mosaics). Two lessons will take place in museums: Museo d'Arte Antica (Castello Sforzesco) and Museo del Duomo. During the Seminar the students will be able to explore various aspects related to monumental contexts, artefacts, techniques, etc.

Prerequisites for admission
The Seminar is reserved to Science of Cultural Property and History and Criticism of Art students
Teaching methods
Lecture (first lesson) and didactic visits with active students participation. The laboratory is intended as a seminar, with presentations made by the students. The attendance to the first lesson is mandatory.
Teaching Resources
Bibliographical references and materials for the presentations will be provided by the teacher after the first lesson.
Assessment methods and Criteria
Practice: study and presentation of specific works of art and/or artistic aspects during the seminar lessons.
