Learning objectives
The course will provide theoretical and practical knowledge in the promotion and conduct of physical exercise in adults and the elderly in good and in ill health.
Expected learning outcomes
Students will acquire knowledge and work methodologies specific for the organization and management of physical activity for improving health in adults and the elderly. Topics include diverse forms of exercise, volume and intensity appropriate for age and good or ill health, as well as exercise for specific disorders.

- Physical activity, health, and longevity.
- Age and trainability.
- Effects of sedentarism on neuromuscular health.
- Effects of sedentarism on cardiovascular health.
- Effects of sedentarism on metabolic health.
- Training load and its assessment.
- Physical evaluation.
- Theoretical and practical aspects of aerobic physical activity for sedentary adults and elderly: suggestions and contraindications.
- Theoretical and practical aspects of strength training for sedentary adults and elderly: suggestions and contraindications.
- The neuromuscular function during aging.
- Outdoor activities: physical activity for different age-ranges. Suggestions and contraindications.
- Indoor activities: physical activity for different age-ranges. Suggestions and contraindications.
- Flexibility and balance for different age-ranges. Suggestions and contraindications.
Prerequisites for admission
Knowledge of the muscular, cardiopulmonary and vascular physiology.
Knowledge of the muscle, bone, and joint anatomy.
Knowledge of the Biomechanics of the locomotor apparatus.
Knowledge of the Strength and Conditioning procedures.

The Lecturers will use scientific papers to explain each topic. Such papers will be uploaded and made available in the Course's website (www.ariel.unimi.it)
Assessment methods and Criteria
Assignment (40% of the overall rate) by means of a power point presentation (possible in telematic mode). This deepening will be related to one of the subjects course
Oral (possible in telematic mode - 60% of the overall rate).
To get an overall positive evaluation, the student must get a positive evaluation in both the evaluations.
