The student will use the epidemiological investigative methods and their fields of application in the healthcare in order to explain the care needs and theirs influencing factors considering age and gender

Teaching methods
The lessons will be held in-class.
The blended lesson will also be used, both in-presence and online, with Moodle open source platform for a blended teaching project.
Variations may occur in relation to the state of health emergency and in this case the lessons will be held remotely through the online platforms provided by the University. The distance lessons will be held in synchronous (through Microsoft Teams platform) and/or asynchronous mode (through Power point with audio, video recording lessons, audio recording lessons, other).

Assessment methods and criteria
The exams will be carried out in-class and/or remotely. Oral exams will be carried out remotely using the Microsoft Teams platform or other online platforms provided by the University. The distance written exams will be carried out using the Exam.net platform or other platforms provided by the University according to the modalities illustrated on the web site http://www. unimi.it
Prerequisites for admission
There are no prerequisites except for the admission test
Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam consists of a written test (multiple choice questions and exercises). Evaluation in thirtieth. The grade achieved is considered valid for the final grade for the entire academic year.

Course syllabus
At the end of the course, students will know the objectives of epidemiology, the investigation methods, and the related fields of application. This objective will be achieved through the acquisition of knowledge about:
Meaning and use of the epidemiological approach: data analysis, planning and evaluation of health services.
Use of health and demographic data in epidemiology:
- Main sources of health and demographic data
- The indicators: meaning and use.
- Health conditions of the female population; birth rate, maternal health and abortion
- Socio-economic determinants of health and gender inequalities
- Guided analysis of current health data
Health status of a population
- Determinants and factors that influence the state of health: biological-natural factors (age, sex and ethnicity), behaviors and lifestyles, physical and social environment, access to health care and services in general
- Socio-economic determinants and inequalities in health and gender
-Methods of descriptive or geographical epidemiology
- Population health profiles
Frequency measurements:
- Ratio, proportions, rates;
- Concept of prevalence, incidence, density of incidence, cumulative incidence
- Standardization of rates
