Fashion Communication and Publishing

Learning objectives
The course aims to provide general knowledge on the structures of the publishing, journalism and fashion communication system in modern society. Useful elements will be provided to help the frame the historical context and development of communication. In addition, we will focus on the practical aspects of the profession of fashion journalism: we will follow a fashion week, building relationships with companies and designers, interviewing the protagonists, and learn how to interpret a statement. During the course we will also address the phenomenon of new media and the visual and writing differences with respect to the printed press.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge: knowledge of the historical features of publishing and fashion communication, and of the current main issues, with reference to Italy and abroad. Knowledge of Italian publishing companies that deal with fashion.
Skills: knowledge of the practical and specialized aspects of the jobs related to fashion communication, with the intention of bettering professional preparation for students, with a focus on writing and work in the field of the fashion journalism. Students will need to be able, by the end of the course, develop a career-path, whether it be editorial or in communication. This is accomplished by knowing how to write an article, a press release or developing digital content.
