Learning objectives
1.Provide basic knowledge of pedagogical disciplines with particular reference to teaching / learning processes in first and second grade secondary schools
2. Historical and current issues of the role and profession of the teacher of the secondary school.
Expected learning outcomes
1. Understanding of the role of education sciences, in the analysis and designing of school contexts and in didactic activities;
2. Knowledge and understanding of the main problems associated with the definition of the role and professional profile of the teacher;
3. Ability to use theoretical references and operational tools (observation, documentation) essential to understand the characteristics of the school context, of the subjects and of the relationships connected to the teaching-learning processes.

Teaching methods
In the emergency phase, the first 6 credits will be delivered remotely, through synchronous lessons (ZOOM and TEAMS platforms), asynchronous lessons (audio lessons in .ppt, pdf of the lessons, materials made available on the Ariel website of the course).

The synchronous lessons will allow students to maintain a direct contact with the teachers and give the opportunity to have clarifications on the topics covered. A forum will also be organized on the Ariel website of the course to facilitate interaction among students and teachers, which of course can be contacted via email, too. All the information regarding the organization of the course, the synchronous and asynchronous lessons, as well as any other updates will be provided on the Ariel website of the course.

The program and the reference material will not change with respect to what is indicated in the syllabus.

Exam and evaluation criteria
As indicated in the syllabus of the course, the exam consists in an oral discussion. Final grading, expressed over 30. The information regarding the exam (in the presence, in compliance with the regulations or remotely, through ZOOM or TEAMS platforms) is made available on the Ariel website of the course. The evaluation criteria will not change and are those reported in the syllabus.
Course syllabus
After an initial excursus on the current debate in the pedagogical field, the theoretical references essential to understand the dimensions and variables implicit in the teaching-learning process will be discussed.
The course will address the issues of the teacher / pupil relationship related to classroom management and all the relational, affective, cognitive, social and cultural aspects (and their mutual interrelations) that connote the life of class with particular reference to secondary school. In particular, class group topics will be addressed. The theoretical knowledge and operative tools connected to the observation techniques to understand the characteristics of the scholastic context will be presented. Finally, the specific characteristics and problems of the school system will be taken into consideration, with particular reference to secondary school.

Lessons, exercises; video-analysis; small group discussions; educational supports analysis; individual and/or in team projects.

- Kanizsa S., Mariani A.M. (a cura di), Introduzione alla pedagogia generale. Formare e aggiornare gli insegnanti delle secondarie, Milano, Pearson, 2020 ;
Other University texts will be indicated by the teachers on the Ariel website of the course.
Assessment methods and Criteria
Oral examination. Final grading, expressed over 30. The exam will be on every text in the bibliography.
Assessment criteria:
- ability to grasp the essential elements of the proposed topics and to present them in an orderly and complete way;
- ability to relate various perspectives on the topics present in the suggested texts;
- critical thinking ability and reflexivity in educational phenomena.
