Course syllabus and organization

Responsible
Teaching methods.
Lessons, webinars, seminars and Journal Clubs will be held in the classroom if possible, according to Government, Region and University rules. All lessons will be video-recorded and made available through the Ariel platform. If necessary, lessons will be held through Microsoft Teams (or other remote platform) and will be available both synchronously at the scheduled time, and asynchronously through Ariel. Laboratory practices will be held according to the rules of the hosting laboratories, if suitably equipped for the COVID emergency, otherwise they will be substituted with live or recorded video tutorials.

Program and reference material.
The program of the lectures will not be changed. All supporting material will be made available through the Ariel platform.

Methods of learning verification and evaluation criteria.
Exams will be held in preferentially in the classrooms, as explained in "Examination Modalities". Alternatively, the examination will take place using the Microsoft Teams or other remote platform.
Prerequisites for admission
The student must possess basic knowledge in biology, biochemistry, genetics, as by his/her Bachelor's degree (Laurea Triennale) in Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry or Pharmaceutical sciences, with particular reference to knowledge of principles of molecular biology of the cell, including mechanisms of dna replication and regulation of gene expression
Assessment methods and Criteria
Each student will be exposed to many different educational activities, including lectures from master-class Professors or the Web, thematic seminars, journal clubs, experimental work in genomics and epigenomics Laboratories (including data-report and journal clubs on the specific project of the practicals) (see below).
Each of the individual educational activities to which each student will be exposed will be evaluated by the respective Professor and contribute to the final evaluation (for a total of 30% of credits).
The final exam will consist of a written (30% of credits) and an oral (40% of credits) examination. The written test will consist of 4 open questions regarding the topics presented in the course. The oral exam will last, on the average, 20 minutes and will consist of the discussion of 2-3 general topics, selected among those discussed in this module

Teaching methods
The course will include:
i) Lectures delivered by master-class Professors;
ii) Lectures obtained from Web sources (videos);
iii) Thematic Seminars delivered by adjunct or invited master-class Professors;
iv) Journal clubs (innovations in the field of omics technologies will be discussed regularly through journal clubs prepared by the students, individually or as group work);
v) Experimental work in a Genomics and Epigenomics Laboratory for a period of 2-3 months;
vi) Attendance to a minimum of three international seminars, organized on specific themes connected to the courses, held by international speakers.
vii) A small group of students will also be exposed to the activities of one the Molecular Tumor Board of the Research Hospitals connected with the Master Degree.
Teaching Resources
There are currently no textbooks specifically dedicated to the content of the course. Web-based handbooks on specific topics will be available to students.
Teaching materials will be distributed by all professors and will include powerpoint presentations of all lectures, journal articles and reviews covering the topics of the course.
