Grapevine Protection

Learning objectives
The course provides knowledge on plant pathogens and insects noxious to grapevine, on control end prevention methods that can be applied in the vineyards and in the nurseries, with emphasis on grapevine pathogens transmitted by insect vectors.

Conoscenza e capacità di comprensione
Gli studenti saranno in grado, attraverso le competenze fornite dal corso, di:
- riconoscere le più importanti fitopatie e i più importanti insetti, indigeni ed esotici di temuta introduzione, che causano danno diretto e indiretto d'interesse economico alla vite
- di valutare l'influenza dell'ambiente sullo sviluppo di fitopatie e insetti del vigneto e sull'epidemiologia delle fitopatie da essi trasmesse
- di impostare adeguate strategie di difesa, con particolare riguardo alle tecniche a basso impatto ambientale.
Capacità di applicare conoscenza e comprensione
Al termine del corso gli studenti saranno in grado di:
- Progettare piani di prevenzione e contenimento di fitopatie e insetti della vite
- Progettare piani di prevenzione e contenimento di fitopatie della vite trasmesse da insetti vettori
- Progettare piani razionali di utilizzazione di fungicidi/insetticidi e di mezzi di lotta alternativi per ottenere la massima efficacia ridurre gli effetti collaterali come i danni agli organismi utili non bersaglio e l'insorgenza di ceppi di patogeni e insetti resistenti agli agrofarmaci.
Autonomia di giudizio
Alla fine del corso gli studenti saranno in grado di valutare e scegliere le strategie di difesa della vite più appropriate in diversi casi di studio
Capacità di apprendimento
Alla fine del corso gli studenti saranno in grado di svolgere valutazioni comparative per l'applicazione di diversi mezzi di controllo di fitopatie e insetti della vite e di reperire autonomamente fonti di informazioni scientificamente valide.

The course will be held in the ASTISS university campus. Teaching activity may be varied according to the limitations imposed by the current health emergency. Nevertheless, the remote mode will be ensured throughout all the academic year.

At the end of the classes, the teacher will elicit a discussion on the topic that has been presented, in order to check the level of understanding of the students.
The final examination is oral and the topics covered in the exam are those of classes, practicals and field trip.

Teaching methods
The course consists of 28 hours of lectures and 12 hours devoted to laboratory and vineyard activities. At the end of the course, there will be an educational trip to wine-producing farms of Piedmont. For the lectures, the teacher makes use of PowerPoint presentations that are available to the students and articles for critical readings

Teaching methods
The course is composed by 36 hours of lectures and 4 hours of visit to vineyards. The lectures are based on use of slides/videos and powerpoint presentations. The teacher deliver them to the students as supplementary material in order integrate the study of the suggested bibliography
