Learning objectives
The aim of the course is to enable participants to acquire knowledge and to understand the historical development of Ethics, through the reading and the commentary of well-known classics of the discipline.

Knowledge and understanding
At the end of the course, the student
- knows the fundamental elements of the history of Ethics;
- understands the methodological reflections concerning the problems of the development of Ethics.
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
At the end of the study path, the student
- can apply the knowledge acquired in framing authors and texts historically;
- can interpret ethical doctrines by relating them to their processing contexts and their respective functions;
- can apply the philosophical lexicon to the analysis and discussion of texts and problems;
- can apply the understanding of concepts and argumentative forms to the analysis of complex texts and problems.

Due to the health emergency, the lessons of the course will be held
entirely in remote mode. I want to have to best interaction possible, therefore the lessons will be provided in synchronous mode (according to the class schedule) and everyone will be able to take part by audio-visual link-up via webcam.
To take part, you have to log in to
"Microsoft Teams", where you'll find a "virtual room" with the name of the discipline.
However, all lessons will also be recorded and they will be accessible at all times both in video format (on Microsoft Teams) and in audio format ( on my personal website (Ariel e-learning platform)

Course syllabus
The course deals first with a few general problems in ethics; it will focus next on the theories about the cultural transmission of ideology, particularly regarding the notion of race. The last part will be devoted to a historical contextualization of modern racism in Europe.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The final examination consists of an oral exam. The purpose of the oral exam will be to test the knowledge and skills acquired by students in light of the course topics.

- knowledge of the theoretical aspects of the topics discussed during the course (exposition);
- ability to exemplify concepts (understanding);
- capacity of use and apply concepts (development);
- use of language
