Learning objectives
Acquisition of the basic concepts of the philological method useful for the study of the transmission of vulgar texts (archetype, copy, guiding errors, contamination, etc.). Ability to read a critical edition and use of the critical apparatus; knowledge of the fundamental concepts of the author's philology.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will be able to know: the fundamental concepts of the Lachmannian method, the different types of error (guiding error, adiaphore reading, contamination, diffraction); the different types of edition (diplomatic, interpretative, critical) and critical (negative or positive) apparatus; a particular case of author philology.

Frontal lessons. Other working materials will be available on Ariel website. Attendance mandatory.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The oral exam will evaluate, in the usual scale of 30, the ability to organize the speech, to critically present the subject treated, the specific knowledge on the philological method, and the terminological competence in the use of specific vocabulary.
