Physiology of Animal Domestics
A.Y. 2020/2021
Learning objectives
Provide to the student, through frontal teaching, laboratory and field exercises, internships, information tools, technology, technology transfer and culture related to the Physiology of domestic animals and ethology and animal welfare. The maximum didactic potential will be expressed in the discussion of fundamental and incisive topics for the training of a graduate in Animal Breeding and Wellbeing: homeostasis and intracellular and extracellular liquids, physiology of the cell, tissues and organs, endocrinology, nutrition physiology, reproduction, lactation, behavior, binding of animals specific species, interspecific, direct and indirect relationship with man and territory and functional and applicative aspects of animal biodiversity, resistance and resilience. The course will provide to the student the tools and knowledge to understand the close link between the physiology of the different organs and their fallout on animal welfare.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding: the student will have to demonstrate the knowledge of basic physiological functions, related to homeostasis, intracellular and extracellular fluids, cell physiology, tissues and organs, endocrinology, nutrition physiology, reproduction, lactation and animal behavior .
Knowledge and comprehension skills applied: the student must demonstrate that he possesses the indispensable concepts for establishing connections between the various topics covered, and in particular between the physiology of the apparatus, endocrinology and aniaml behavior.
Communication skills: the student must demonstrate to be able to use an appropriate terminology, which allows him to adequately express the acquired knowledge.
Ability to learn: the student will have to demonstrate to be able, in total autonomy, to increase and integrate the knowledge of the topics related to the physiology and endocrinology and behavior of domestic animals.
