Learning objectives
The course explores, analyzes, and practices respiratory movement and related postures; the role of breathing and posture in learning motor skills and physical activity in general.
Expected learning outcomes
Students will acquire the ability to promote correct respiratory and postural dynamics that improve adaptation to the complexity of sports skills and situations.

This course cannot be attended as a single course. Please check our list of single courses to find the ones available for enrolment.

Course syllabus and organization

Single session

Lesson period
year
If the emergency phase does not allow the provision of face-to-face teaching style adoption, the lessons will be held in a synchronous mode through the on-line platform Microsoft Teams and they will follow the same timetable as previously assigned.
The didactic material (slides showed during lessons) will be available on Ariel platform. The course program and the didactic material will not change.
The exam will be held in oral form and will be based on three questions regarding the topics covered during the course, using the on line platform Microsoft Teams or, if the pandemic rules will allow, the exam will be in presence in a practical form.
The exam will aim to verify student's knowledge and comprehension abilities. It will be also verified the language competency and the exposure skills.
Course syllabus
·Respiratory dynamics: diaphragmatic and thoracic movement and mixed breathing
·Slow, deep breathing according to the Buteyko technique: controlled pausing and exercises
·Five basic exercises for respiratory activation
·Regression and progression of exercises in the above-mentioned techniques
·Personalization of routine reset flow according to individual needs during the course
·Elements of coordination: head movement, rolling, rocking, crawling, crosscrawling
·Basic movements with targeted breathing: Turkish get-up, squat, press, pull up, dead lift, push-up, plank in different positions
·Breathing and trunk stability
·Correct posture and functioning of sports technique
·Overview of functional anatomy of the pelvic girdle, scapulohumeral muscles, spinal column, head, upper and lower limbs according to the principles of F.M. Alexander and F. Mezieres
·Breathing and posture: common tests and functional evaluation
