Learning objectives
The course aims are to:
Provide students with the necessary tools to be able to formulate a nutritional diagnosis, following the NCP (Nutrition Care Process) path and the most appropriate diet therapy treatments for different pathological conditions, according to national and international guidelines.
Identify the appropriate nutritional approach and the related diet therapy treatment in cases where multiple pathological processes are present.
Develop dietary programs for groups or individuals affected by different pathological conditions.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the students will have acquired the necessary knowledge to understand the different pathological conditions and to formulate a diagnosis from a nutritional point of view and a nutritional therapy for the different pathologies treated, which concern:
the conditions of malnutrition due to excess and defect; the most common pathological conditions of the cardiovascular system, dyslipidemias and hypertension, of the renal, gastrointestinal, respiratory systems, chronic degenerative diseases such as diabetes and hyperuricemia, oncological pathologies, food allergies and intolerances, neuromuscular pathologies, the eating disorders, the specific diet therapy approach for epilepsy (ketogenic) and some hereditary metabolic pathologies and, for each one, the relative dietary approaches that allow the formulation of adequate diets.
They will have acquired the ability to deepen and update their knowledge drawing on the scientific literature and guidelines for the nutritional treatment of the various diseases treated.

Assessment methods and criteria:
If the exams cannot be performed in university classrooms, due to sanitary reasons, oral exams will be carried out in Teams.
Teaching methods:
During the evolving sanitary situation there could be changes in teaching methods, the changes will be promptly communicated through the Ariel website of "Corso di Laurea in Dietistica" and through the teaching Ariel website.

) Assessment of nutritional status: malnutritions, diagnostic assessment and specific dietary treatments.
2 ) Obesity: the role of dietary treatment .
3 ) Diabetes and gout: nutritional problems and diet therapy .
4 ) Diseases of the digestive system: nutritional problems and diets in chronic and acute intestinal diseases, pancreatitis and liver diseases .
5 ) Allergies, food intolerances and celiac disease .
6 ) Dyslipidemia: addresses of diet therapy - Dietary treatment in cardiovascular and respiratory diseases.
7) Renal diseases: kidney stones; acute and chronic renal failure, dialisys. Osteoporosis
8) Dietary treatment in oncological diseases
9) Dysphagia: nutritional problems and diet therapy approaches.
10) The artificial nutrition: Oral supplements, modular supplements, thickeners. Enteral and Parenteral nutrition and refeeding syndrome.
11) Dietary approaches to treat Hypertension
12) Dietary treatment of neurological diseases: Parkinson Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
13) Ketogenic diet in the treatment of drug resistant epilepsy and in other neurometabolic diseases
14) Dietary treatments in Inherited metabolic disorders: glycogenosis and other metabolic disorders
15) Dietary treatment of eating behavior disorders: Anorexia nervosa, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder, Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified
Prerequisites for admission
Having acquired the basic knowledge of the pathophysiological and pathological mechanisms underlying the various pathologies.
Being able to carry out a food intakes evaluation, assessment of needs and to realize physiological diets.
Teaching methods
Frontal lessons and practical exercises with the elaboration of diet plans related to the pathologies treated. The slides of the lectures and the material provided during the exercises will be available

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exams will take place in writing, the exam topics will focus on the different points of the program
The evaluations will be based on the correctness of the answers according to their importance
The exams will take place during the sessions scheduled for the Degree course.
The result will be communicated via email.
