Learning objectives
The laboratory proposes the acquisition of the main cartographic concepts (theoretical and practical), the exercise of reading and interpreting the maps, the recognition of geographical data and their processing in information and the understanding of the explicit and implicit symbolic messages of the cartographic documents.
Expected learning outcomes
The learning outcomes expected at the end of the course are knowledge of the elements, methods, aims and tools of cartography and its historical evolution; also the development of skills related to iconographic communication and cartographic semiology.

The contents of the workshop are an introduction to cartography, its elements, methods, aims and tools; notes on the history of cartography and associated world views; thematic and general cartography; iconographic communication and cartographic semiology; metacartographic and paracartographic representations; GIS; current cartographic production in Italy.
