Teaching Workshop: Documentary Visual Arts: Theory and Practice

Learning objectives
The teaching workshop aims at presenting and explaining the steps necessary for the production of art documentaries, with particular attention to the production and writing phases (to which the second part of the cours is entirely dedicated).
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge and Skills: through the analysis of some practical and theoretical examples, students will learn how to arrange the project for a video documentary.

The lessons will take place in person.
Students will find all the information to access the lessons, any changes to the program and any changes in the reference material (any bibliography etc.) on the laboratory's Ariel website.
If it is not possible to carry out the final exercise in the manner prescribed in the Syllabus, the test can be carried out electronically in the manner that will be communicated on the workshop's Ariel website at the end of the course.

from writing to post-production: what a documentary is (with particular reference to the world of art)
how an art documentary is planned / some examples: clients, fund research, destination research
projection and analysis of a short documentary on commission: Gillo Dorfles In a glass of water
from writing to fund research, filming and editing: TV, Museum, dissemination, Movie Theatres and Festival, Web, social media
the documentary as a project to be financed: official and independent cinema practices and mechanisms.
The importance of sound.
one footage: endless films. beginning of the writing workshop: rewriting of the short documentary seen in the classroom, using the same footage but distorting the narration. Division into groups and initial settings, exchange of ideas, research of the subject and its purpose (and therefore of its language).
