Learning objectives
Through a transdisciplinary approach, the course aims to provide the student with an introduction to the knowledge of cultural and intercultural practices that have developed in the main French-speaking areas. To this end, various media will be used (literary texts, critical texts, images, videos) which, compared, will allow students to critically understand the cultural and transcultural dynamics in those areas and in comparison with metropolitan space.
Expected learning outcomes
The ability, throughout specific critical instruments, to understand, analyze and compare different cultural phenomena, socio-anthropological dynamics, intercultural and transcultural relationships. In particular, the aim is to allow the student to have the widest possible vision of the manifold diversity that make up contemporary societies and to develop possible responses to the problems that will arise in the course of this cultural investigation and in their practice and agency as mediators.

In relation to the mode of delivery of training activities for the 2021/2022 academic year, more specific indications will be given in the coming months, based on the evolution of the health situation.
Course syllabus
Defined at the end of the 19th century as a "white space of delicious mystery" (Heart of Darkness, Joseph Conrad), Congo-Kinshasa (formerly Zaire, now the Democratic Republic of Congo) is today, almost 60 years after its independence from Belgium, one of the richest states in Central Africa from a potential point of view and one of the poorest and most politically unstable in the World Bank's ranking. Its true wealth lies, in fact, in a thousand-year-old heritage of culture, which has been able to adapt to the challenges of globalization. In this course, the aim will be to deepen the cultural history of the Congo, while exploring its trajectory in the most diverse fields (historical, anthropological, literary, cinematographic, theatrical, fine arts, comics, the press, intercultural actions, development aid). We will also take into account the artistic and cultural productions of the Congolese Diaspora.
Prerequisites for admission
Non si danno prerequisiti per seguire il corso. La conoscenza della lingua francese al secondo anno si dà per acquisita: parte del materiale non sarà in lingua italiana.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam will be oral and in Italian. It will focus on the verification, through a dialogue, of the skills acquired during the course of re-elaboration of concepts, notions and their updating with respect to the Italian case.
