Learning objectives
The goal of this course is to present the foundation of microeconomics, macroeconomics and development economics with theoretical lectures and practical exercises.
The micro-economic section will deal with the analysis of the economic actors' choices and market structures. The macro-economic section aims to define the most relevant elements of the economic system and to show their interactions at the national and international levels. The combination of the two sections will lead to analyze the economic framework in the different regional areas and the main instruments for economic policies and global governance.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of this course, the student will be able to critically analyze the main economic trends and identify and evaluate the most relevant causal relations influenced by public economic policies.

Second trimester
The lectures will be held, following the rules of the University of Milan, in presence or online. In any case, the lectures will be streamed live on the web platform Teams. Information will be shared in advance weekly.
Course syllabus
The course will be developed in two parallel paths of microeconomic and macroeconomic analysis. The first one will present the functioning of markets, the decision-making process of consumers and producers and specific aspects like monopolies and oligopolies, public goods and externalities. The second one will deal with elements, actors and trends of the economic system (national income and product, employment, inflation, etc.) analyzing the interactions between real and financial markets. The final part of the course will address some foundations of economic policies and territorial economy.
Prerequisites for admission
No pre-requisites.
Teaching methods
Lectures with slides. All lectures will be streamed live on the web platform Teams and recorded both on Teams and Ariel.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The modality of the exam will be explained during the course, considering the general conditions due to the pandemic. All the details will be available on Ariel and on Teams.
