Learning objectives
The course aims to illustrate the historical development of Western architecture from Middle Age to XX century. Specific moments and building will be presented as case-studies in relation with the theory and critic of architecture.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding: Knowledge of Western architecture from Middle Age till today and of its connections with painting and sculpture.
Applying knowledge and understanding: Acquiring primary historical and critical skills and methods for the study, interpretation and analysis of architecture and for their contextualization.

Course syllabus
Title: History of Architecture from Late Antiquity to the XXth Century.

The course aims to introduce historically and critically the development of the history of Western architecture, with a focus on specific phases and buildings.

Part A: Medieval Architecture
Part B: Cross-readings
Part C: XIXth -XXth Centuries

- For a 6-CFU exam: Parts A-B.
Prerequisites for admission
Adequate mastering of Italian language and suitable knowledge of western Art History, form Medieval to Contemporary age.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam consists of an interview on the scheduled topics, aimed at verifying the student's knowledge, his critical thinking and speaking skills.
