Learning objectives
Il corso fornisce le linee generali sulla storia dei movimenti politici in età contemporanea e gli strumenti necessari alla comprensione dei principali caratteri degli stessi. Durante il corso, la docente farà riferimento alle teorie politiche che, a partire dalla Rivoluzione francese, si sono sviluppate in Europa e nel mondo occidentale, nonché ai movimenti politici e sociali che da tali teorie hanno preso spunto per i loro programmi. Attraverso il corso, lo studente apprenderà dunque elementi utili per una maggiore comprensione del presente. Il corso prevede, nell'ultima parte, la possibilità per i frequentanti di esporre in classe loro ricerche ed approfondimenti: in questo modo si intendono sviluppare le capacità espositive ed espressive dello studente.
Expected learning outcomes
Al termine del corso lo studente avrà acquisito la conoscenza della storia dei movimenti politici e sociali tra Otto e Novecento. Sarà inoltre in grado di stabilire correlazioni spazio-temporali e di comprendere le dinamiche complesse su tali temi e di utilizzare strumenti linguistici (proprietà di linguaggio, corretto lessico specifico) adeguati a esprimere, in forma chiara ed efficace, concetti che attengono alla sfera di tali argomenti; saprà leggere criticamente opere storiografiche e utilizzare i principali strumenti per la ricerca e l'analisi delle fonti. Queste competenze saranno acquisite tramite un confronto diretto e continuativo con il docente in aula; la discussione intorno alle fonti proposte costituirà inoltre un momento di riflessione critica e di apprendimento metodologico.

Course syllabus
Course provides general outlines on the history and characteristics of political movements and political parties in the contemporary age. References are made to political theories and models that, since the French Revolution, have developed in Europe and in the Western world, as well as to the political and social parties and movements that have taken inspiration from these. The main part focus on the history of Italian political movements and parties, from the Italian unification to the early 2000s, and in particular to the so-called "First Republic", the Scoppolian "Republic of parties".
Prerequisites for admission
There are no specific requirements different from those requested for the admission to the third year.
Teaching methods
Lectures attendance is strongly recommended although not compulsory. Lectures are aimed primarily at the acquisition of knowledge, competence, and specific language of the subject. Important educational tools will be the Press and audiovisual sources that will be presented and analysed during the lectures (such as leaders' speeches, newspaper articles, posters, and so on). Some lectures with expert scholars could be scheduled.

- Type of examination: oral interview on the handbooks and the Gunther&Diamond's essay + PowerPoint presentation on the in-depth book/s; the student shall contact the professor at least three weeks before the exam.
- Evaluation criteria: capacity to demonstrate and elaborate knowledge; capacity for critical reflection on the completed work; quality of exposition, competence in the use of specialised lexicon, efficacy, clarity.
- Type of evaluation method: mark in 30s.
The format of the exam for students with disabilities should be arranged in advance with the professor, as well as the relevant office.
