Learning objectives
‒ To identify and manage the most frequent medical and surgical clinical emergencies.
‒ To evaluate a patient's clinical status and stratify the risk of clinical deterioration.
‒ To know the current guidelines for the management and rescue of the vital functions, applying the appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms.

Prerequisites for admission
The students should have deep knowledge of physiology of the main body organs and systems. In addition, the students should know pathophysiology, signs and symptoms of the most common acute illnesses.

- Treatment and differential diagnosis of potentially evolutionary clinical situations: disorders of consciousness, haemodynamic instability, dyspnea
- Pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of shock
- Identification and treatment of the main metabolic and endocrinological emergencies and of acid-base disorders
- Diagnosis and treatment of the main neurological emergencies and differential diagnosis of altered mental status

Anesthesiology clinical skills (1 CFU): the students will attend the clinical activity in the Emergency department (medical and surgical sections) and will attend the activity of the Medical Emergency Team caring for in-hospital emergencies. The objective is to learn the diagnostic and therapeutic approach to the critically ill patients.
Pain Therapy clinical skills (1 CFU): seminars and attendance of Acute Pain Service and Chronic Pain Service, aimed at learning the diagnostic-therapeutic approach to the patients with acute and chronic pain.
