Learning objectives
The course aims to enable the student to achieve the following learning outcomes:
1. With reference to knowledge and understanding:
a.Assimilation of some basic notions of contemporary translatology.
b. Understanding of the main translation problems and techniques related to the translation from Chinese to Italian of tourism and literary texts.
c. Acquisition of some relevant methodologies used in response to the main specific translation problems.
2. With reference to applied knowledge and understanding:
a. Ability to identify specialist terminology in the tourism field.
b. Ability to apply adequate translation strategies in response to textual typology and translation problems.
3. With reference to autonomy of judgment:
a. ability to evaluate the specificities of a given text and language.
b. ability to identify and problematize the main translation problems in a given text.
c. ability to comment and contextualize the translation choices adopted in rendering from Chinese to Italian, making use of specific terminology.
4. With reference to communication skills:
a. ability to propose shared multimedia presentations.
b. ability to meta-discursively talk about texts using specific concepts and terminology.
c. ability to effectively present a translation project.
5. With reference to the ability to learn:
a. ability to use learning tools and textual / multimedia processing based on cooperative activities.
b. ability to use reference texts critically, as well as to make use of transversal knowledge acquired in Chinese language and culture courses.

Expected learning outcomes
Students will translate different typologies of texts. This work will refine their knowledge of the Chinese contemporary language and it will foster their ability to render these specialised texts in Italian without betraying their link to the original context of production. A constant interaction between the students and the teachers will refine the students' critical capacities and their communicative skills in a formal context.

The course consists of 40 hours of frontal teaching (20 lessons, 6 credits), divided into two distinct modules:
1. The first module (20 hours, 3 credits) is dedicated to the language of tourism
2. The second module (20 hours, 3 credits) is dedicated to literary translation.

Prerequisites for admission
Knowledge of the grammatical and syntactic structures of the Chinese language.
Teaching methods
The lectures, as well as face-to-face, will also be interactive, with the presentation by students and the classroom discussion of translation exercises on assigned texts, both in groups and individually.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam consists of an oral test in which the student will undergo a translation exercise from Chinese into Italian, relevant to the course contents. Space will be given to the ability to contextualize and critically argue translation choices.
Active participation in the course, the drafting of group work, the exhibition of works on the issues addressed will also be evaluated.
