Learning objectives
The purpose of the course is to provide the basic notions for the construction of animal houses in relation to climatic and space requirements, in respect of animal health and welfare, and to provide knowledge of the technologies applicable to companion animals.
Expected learning outcomes
The student will be able to evaluate the quality of the facilities and apply the most suitable technologies for the management of companion animals, with a view to animal health and welfare, in line with current legislation.

Horse breeding - environmental needs and microclimatic parameters
Facilities for horses
Training facilities for the English thoroughbred horse
Environmental conditions of the stables and control of respiratory diseases
Plants for companion animal building: pets and horses. Ventilation systems (dimensioning and types). Disinfection systems
Companion animals (dog, cat and horse) and the application of the technology of precision and sensors
Sensors (acoustic, chemical, electrical and conductivity, mechanical, location, optical, imaging, light, cameras, pressure, temperature
Equipment for the handling, protection, and containment of horses
Facilities and equipment for training and competition
The design of the equine center
Training on a treadmill
The kennels and the cattery: the design criteria
Data science (practical examples of sensor operation, from machine learning to application in the monitoring system)
Visits to clinics and stables for practical application knowledge
Prerequisites for admission
No specific prerequisites are required for the lectures related to animal husbandry.
